Comoros Agribusiness Investment Opportunities: Feasibility Analysis and Business Plans Comoros

Project Description
ASI is conducting a feasibility study to inform the Arab Committee’s strategy to invest approximately $80 million into sustainable economic growth initiatives in agriculture in Comoros.

Project Approach
ASI assembled and sent a team of agricultural and value chain experts to the Union of Comoros to investigate sustainable agribusiness investment opportunities. Their overall aim was to conduct desk and field-based research into particular agribusiness and agricultural sectors that would provide a viable investment opportunity for the Arab Committee and its private sector partners. Based on in-depth discussions as well as analysis of field surveys and observations, market and trade information, and technical and operational requirements, the team identified four opportunities:

  • a modern ylang ylang distillery
  • fair trade vanilla investment
  • off-season (wet season) greenhouse vegetable production
  • a goat dairy and meat facility

Each was given a through sector, trade and investment analysis, and detailed financial projections were prepared to complete illustrative business plans. In addition to separate sector assessments, the team also produced a combined technical and financial analysis of capital requirements to address all four investment opportunities as one integrated development project.

Impact and Accomplishments
ASI’s feasibility report will inform the selection, size and scope of the Arab Committee’s investment in the agricultural sector with the ultimate goal of increasing smallholder incomes in the Union of Comoros.
